BASF EXPERTS SHARE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN THE PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY

On October 25, 2018, the German chemical concern BASF held a technical seminar “BASF Integrated Solutions for the Oil and Gas Sector of the Republic of Tatarstan” in Naberezhnye Chelny.

During the event the company’s experts shared their many years of expertise in the oil refining and petrochemical industries with participants and guests of the seminar, among which there were partners and customers of the company.

The event began in the morning with an introductory speech by the head of BASF in Russia and the CIS, Christoph Rörig. In his speech Mr. Roerig outlined three main areas of the company’s strategy in Russia: regionalization, a cross-industrial approach and localization.

The expert presentation was held in the format of reports. Anton Regino, coordinator of the business segment Additives for Oil Refineries (Oil Refineries) in Russia and the CIS, BASF LLC, spoke about the methods of using this product for the production, transportation and storage of medium distillate fuels and heavy oil products.

“BASF has a wide range of solutions to improve the quality of base diesel fuels and other middle distillates. “Our products fully comply with the Euro 5 environmental standard for low temperature properties, lubricity, cetane number and other parameters,” says Anton Regino. “Our customers can always count on the long-term expertise of BASF specialists in selecting the most effective formulations of depressant-dispersant additives for a specific fuel of the customer, since we have a modern laboratory in Moscow. The guarantee of timely deliveries for key BASF customers is due to the presence of the company’s local production facilities for most types of fuel additives in the Russian Federation. ”
The concern offers a wide range of additives for refineries, for example, lubricating additives or additives to improve the low-temperature properties of fuels.

“The most popular products from the line of fuel additives for oil refineries in the markets of Russia and the CIS are Keroflux brand depressant and depressant-dispersant additives. These products can effectively lower the pour point of middle distillates and fuel oils, the maximum temperature of filterability of diesel fuels, ensure their sedimentation stability during cold storage, without which it is often extremely difficult to transport and use medium distillates in the cold season, ”adds Anton Regino.
Ilya Maksimov, manager of the Catalysts department, BASF LLC, spoke about the features of the production technology of BASF cracking catalysts and the advantages of the products that it provides. As part of the report, an overview of the portfolio of BASF cracking catalysts and additives was presented, as well as examples of their industrial applications were examined in detail. “BASF focuses on innovative solutions that are used to create these products. This, in turn, allows oil refiners to solve the most complex problems and be more successful, ”comments Ilya Maximov.

In his next presentation, the expert spoke about the set of tools and approaches that the German concern uses to provide technical support of the highest level. The importance of working together with a refinery was also noted, the result of which is to maximize the reliability and profitability of cracking units.
In addition, during the seminar, the company presented its expertise in the production and development of coolants and brake fluids. Participants and guests of the seminar were presented cooperation models for the joint development of the automotive technical liquids market that meet the requirements of international standards and are approved for use on assembly lines.

“BASF constantly interacts with world-renowned automotive brands, which allows us to better understand the current needs of consumers,” comments Ekaterina Antsiferova, sales manager of special chemicals for fuels and oils, BASF LLC. “The knowledge and experience gained since the first coolant appeared on the market almost 90 years ago, as well as high production standards allow us to create high-quality products that can satisfy the needs of our customers.”

Alexey Nemchenko, sales manager for special chemicals for oilfield services and oil production, BASF LLC and Thomas Altmann, business development manager for enhanced oil recovery, BASF SE, spoke about the importance of the oil industry in Russia and about chemical products for oil production.
“BASF offers a wide range of chemical products for all upstream segments, which includes oil exploration and production activities. Among the developments of the concern: additives for drilling fluids and well cementing, products for stimulating production, oilfield chemistry, as well as products and technologies for physicochemical methods for increasing oil recovery, ”comments Alexei Nemchenko.

Dmitry Romanchuk, the head of the industrial direction of BASF Construction Systems LLC, spoke about BASF technologies and materials during the construction and operation of petrochemical facilities. “BASF materials and technologies for building chemistry allow fulfilling design requirements both in new construction and in the reconstruction of buildings and structures of petrochemical enterprises. The implementation of BASF solutions allows to increase the turnaround time of work, as well as reduce the cost of ownership of buildings and structures, and invest the saved money in the development of enterprises — modernization, innovative technologies, expansion of production, ”said Dmitry Romanchuk.

The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the key regions for BASF, which is the third in terms of supply in Russia, after the Central and North-West Federal Districts. Long-standing and reliable partners and customers of the concern are active here. In this regard, the region was chosen as the venue for the seminar, where participants exchanged experiences and considered opportunities for further expansion of cooperation.
